Part 5

Saraynea walked with Korramaru along the stone path that led to the garden.

“That lunch was so good.” Korramaru said with a smile.

“Yeah, but it’s different than Huo’s cooking. I can tell when he eats that he’s judging every part of the meals.” Saraynea said. “That’s the path that will take you to where Stormfang is.” She pointed to where the stones met with the dirt path.

“Awesome! I just want to check on him. I’ll see you around.” Korramaru walked toward the tiger dens.

“Saraynea.” Lily greeted as she approached. “Do you have a moment?”

“Of course.” Saraynea replied.

“I was talking to Earthfur about you being a shaman. I almost can’t believe that we did manage to bring another one to our world.” She smiled.

“He’s the one who trained me how to fight. It’s so crazy that we met and didn’t know that we were family.”

“The spirits are always watching out for us. There’s actually one that I want you to meet.” Lily closed her eyes and placed a paw on her chest, summoning a massive blue and red flame. The fire took a shape of a red guardian lion. Her mane, paws, and wings burned with blue and white flames. “This is Adena. She’s my spirit guardian.”

“Wow! Your guardian is a lion too!” Saraynea smiled.

“You know of another one?” Lily asked. After a bright flash forced her to cover her eyes, she stared at Hototo with a curious expression.

“Hototo is my spirit guardian. He took care of me when I was a cub.” Saraynea said.

“I’m so relieved to know that you had a spirit to protect you while you were away from home.” Lily smiled at Hototo.

“Home?” he questioned as he turned to Saraynea.

“That’s right. It turns out that this is where I was born. I was stolen when I was really small, so that’s how I ended up at the orphanage.” Saraynea explained. Hototo snarled and dragged his claws against the stones.

“If only I had been there, I would have done anything to help!” he grumbled.

“The connection between a spirit and their partner takes time to build. Only when both have enough strength can a guardian locate their partner and travel between the spirit and mortal realms.” Lily tried to comfort him.

“Maybe a tour of the territory would be appropriate.” Adena started to get Hototo’s attention. “Knowing this land as well as its parallel in the spirit realm will prove helpful with protecting our partners.” She finished. Hototo nodded and Adena spread her wings. “We’ll start with the spirit realm and fly to make this quicker.” She stared at Hototo for a moment.

“I cannot fly.” He said as he stared at the ground.

“Oh.” Adena quickly folded her fiery wings at her sides. “I hope you’re fast on your feet then.”

“I can handle running.” He replied and the two spirits dashed away from the temple while Lily and Saraynea watched. After they could no longer be seen, Saraynea’s ears drooped.

“I didn’t mean to make him feel responsible for that day.”

“Don’t worry. He’s a guardian spirit.
